Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Look on the file tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. See Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely if you're trying to access your media with any other media players. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place, or that you've been too aggressive when deleting duplicates. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter, or you've moved a non-portable library to a different path (see Make a split library portable for details). The "missing file" issue with exclamation marks happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. I would rather not do this as I store all my music in individual folders within the default Windows Music folder, and therefore do not want duplicate copies anywhere else.ĭoes anyone have any suggestions for fixing this conundrum? I'm happy to provide additional information as needed. The only other suggestion I can find is to use the "Consolidate Files" utility, which will scan my entire hard drive for the original files and automatically store copies of the files into the iTunes Media folder. Nearly every guide I've found says that changing the iTunes Media folder location should solve this issue, however it was already changed to the new drive automatically.

The problem that I'm running into now is that iTunes can no longer locate any of the original files, and I can't seem to find a guide which covers how to do this with my particular setup.

One of the first things I did was move my Music folder by changing the target location from C:\User\Music to D:\User\Music, which worked exactly as intended.
